Juror of Awards: Harold Gregor
Harold Gregor [website], a watermedia artist, gained national prominence the 1970s Photo-realism movement, turning to farm structures and the sweeping horizon of the rural Midwest for inspiration. Along with his realist landscape depictions, this Bloomington, Illinois artist is known for unusual Flatscape paintings that suggest Midwest landscapes by combining aerial perspective and unique color.
After retirement in 1995, Gregor began exploring a third aspect called "trail" paintings—colorful abstracts derived from scenes of a local walking trail. He currently paints and shows in all four modes—realist panoramas, aerial Flatscapes, energetic abstract trails and, his latest effort, Vibrascapes.
Gregor holds a BS degree from Wayne State University, an MS from Michigan State University and a doctorate from Ohio State. He is the recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts grant, a NEA Midwest Fellowship and the Illinois Academy of Fine Arts Lifetime Achievement Award. Gregor is a Distinguished Professor, Emeritus at Illinois State University.
